I'm very fair-skinned (Irish heritage) and I burn within 20 minutes here in Bali. I've heard Melanotan II can help you tan without as much UV exposure.

But I've also seen some concerning things online about side effects — nausea, moles darkening, etc.

Can anyone share their actual experience?

  • What dose do you use?
  • How long before you noticed tanning?
  • Did existing moles get darker? (this worries me)
  • Do you still use sunscreen?
  • Any other side effects?

I've used it for about 2 years (I'm also fair-skinned Australian). Start with 250mcg/day for the first week to test for nausea. Once you're tanned up, you only need 250mcg once or twice a week to maintain. I still use SPF30 but I almost never burn anymore. Moles can darken slightly — get a skin check before starting and monitor any changes.

I use a very low dose — 100mcg every other day. Enough to build a gradual base tan without the nausea. It took about 3 weeks to really notice. I definitely still wear sunscreen but the tan I get now is so much better than the lobster red I used to get. Watch your moles carefully though — any changes, see a dermatologist.

Start very low (100-250mcg) and combine with minimal sun exposure to activate it. The nausea is dose-dependent — lower doses rarely cause issues. You should still use sunscreen, MT2 isn't a UV shield. Most importantly: regular skin checks. If you have a history of melanoma in your family, I'd advise against it.

Hi Emma,

Finding a balance between getting a tan and staying safe from the sun can be quite the challenge, especially with fair skin! Melanotan II (MT2) definitely has its perks, but it's wise to approach it cautiously, especially with concerns about side effects.

From what you've shared, starting with a lower dose like 100-250mcg seems to be a common advice, as it helps minimize side effects like nausea. It's also helpful to know that sun exposure can activate MT2, but it's crucial to keep using sunscreen to protect your skin. Remember, MT2 is not a replacement for sunscreen!

Regarding moles, it's important to keep a close eye on them. Changes in moles are a known side effect, and regular skin checks can provide peace of mind. If you notice any changes or have a family history of melanoma, it's always best to consult a dermatologist before starting.

Would love to hear how it goes if you decide to try it, and feel free to ask any more questions!
